Researchers have found a link between some eating habits and mortality. It seems that almost half of all deaths caused by heart attack, stroke and diabetes are directly related to what we eat.
Here are the “7 enemies of longevity”:
7. Sweet Drinks
Sugar drinks can dramatically increase blood sugar levels with little or no nutritional value. They are responsible for 7.4% of deaths caused by heart attack, diabetes and stroke. This category includes cola, fruit juices with added sugar and energy drinks.
What do you have to do? Replace sugary drinks with water and avoid drinking coffee and tea with a lot of sugar.
6. Lack of fruit
Lack of fruit is responsible for 7.5% of deaths. The World Health Organization recommends that everyone eat at least 5 servings (about 400g) of fruits and vegetables a day. What you need to do: Add an apple, a banana or other fresh or frozen fruits to your daily diet.
5. Lack of vegetables
Lack of vegetables is responsible for about 8% of all deaths caused by heart attack, stroke and diabetes. What do you have to do? Choose vegetables according to the season; for example in summer – tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and in winter – pumpkin, cabbage, carrots. Frozen vegetables can also be eaten.
4. Lack of unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids
This type of acid is found in fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna, trout). No wonder the natives of Greenland, who consume a lot of fish, have the lowest rate of heart disease.
In addition, omega-3 fatty acids are responsible for the health of the skin, the beauty of the hair and nails.
What do you have to do? Eat more fish (frozen, canned or fresh), this being one of the healthiest eating habits.
3. Processed meat
Sausages, salami or sausages are very harmful. Processed meat products are responsible for 8.2% of deaths due to the fact that they contain a lot of nitrites and a lot of salt.
According to the World Health Organization, if you eat only 50g of processed meat daily, this increases the risk of rectal cancer and other cancers by 18%. What do you have to do? Instead of processed meat, eat fresh meat.
2. Lack of nuts and seeds in food
If people ate more nuts and seeds, 8.5% of deaths from heart attack, diabetes and stroke could be avoided.
Walnuts and seeds are a real natural storehouse of trace elements and vitamins.
What do you have to do? They are very high in calories, it is recommended to consume only 30-50g (one hand) of nuts or seeds daily.
- Excess salt
Excess salt is a terrible killer, causing almost 10% of deaths. Excess salt traps fluid in the body, putting more stress on the kidneys and heart.
What to do: Start minimizing salt intake. You can use more spices instead of salt.
